Srirangam -- tour diary of 20.2.14

Had a peaceful darshan.Thank god politics was kept out ,this time around.

As i stood near the steps beyond which was the sanctum ,drinking in the perfect calm repose of Sri Ranganathar  praying for but a fraction of that calm and peace the long list of illustrious predecessors starting from Sri Rama ,who has worshipped this very idol /deity in ayodhya before gifting him to vibeeshana ,aazhwars, acharyas ,and numerous kings and common people[my forefathers also] all standing before this deity and at this very same place in total supplication with various attitudes and may be with similar requests, passed through my mind and endowed on me a feeling of continuity .

Ranga has been a witness to the pain as well  jubilation's and the gratitude of crores of devotees down the centuries..He was himself [that is in his archa form ] subject to untold humiliations in the hands of sectarians as well as from other religionists.

He had been worshipped by warriors and also sought to be destroyed by warriors..He was also worshipped by saints ,scholars and common folks.

Remarkable , the manner in which he has gone through every phase and has emerged and re emerged mainly due to the resilience and deep faith of his devotees ,without a scratch or stain and continues to radiate the calm unperturbed meditative repose that by itself is very assuring.

It is my knowledge of history that makes me view him thus, but to all those multitudes, ignorant of the various trials and tribulations , he is an important ancient sacred deity like many other deities ,to whom ,one  is  bound by duty and faith  to pay one's  obeisance.
