   The legend of moon like bright countenanced damsels decked  in ornaments ,keeping penance and seeking boons from Madhava /Kesava who churned the milky ocean is related by Andal of Srivalliputur the daughter of peria azhwar ,who adorns herself with cool and pleasant garland of lotuses.

Do listen to the reason behind us all praising your lotus feet early in the morning,

'o' Govinda ,in all the seven into seven births we will have a close relationship with you,.
We will serve none other than you,

o Govinda you have the qualities which would conquer all those who refuse to bow before you,
the reward we will get for singing your praises is ,undying fame for this country,
we will wear earings armlets,amulets bestowed on us by you and Radha,

after that we will partake rice payasm -kheer overflowing with ghee that will drip down our elbows and thus end our penance , Govinda

we will sing in praise of your wealth --lakshmi and her infinite wealth as well as your valorous deeds.

Meaning.
                One who measured the world in days gone by ,praise be  to your feet!
                 You went to lanka in the south and destroyed it , praise be to your ability!
                  One who kicked to death the rakshas Sagadasuran, praise be to your fame,
                  One who flung the rakshas that took the form of a calf at the rakshas who took the form    of             a  custard apple , praise be to your sacred feet,
                  Praise be to your nature that lifted the Govardhana hill as an a umbrella in the deluge,
              Praise be to your hands that holds the spear that brings victory and destroys enimity!

over a soft mattress spread over a cot which is supported by ivory legs in a room lit by tall oil lamps,

Radha! You have eyes that are darkened by kajal,
you are not waking up your wedded husband though the sun is climbing higher in the sky,
You are unable to bear the pangs of separation even for a few seconds!

Lotus have bloomed in the pond in your backyard and lilies have closed their petals.

Sanyasi's whose teeth are white without any stain [by not chewing betul nut,paan]and wearing saffron clothes are proceeding to their sacred temples to blow the conch!

Dear youngwoman ,you had promised to wake us up but haven't kept the promise ,yet you are not ashamed ! We  concede that you do posses the ability to  talk sweetly,

All the girl have reached the place where the penance has  to be performed, singing raises of one who Tore open the mouth of the bird , the form taken by Bhakasuran and of the Bhagwan who effortlessly plucked the 10 heads of the wicked Ravana.

Venus has risen and Jupiter has set[indicating the break of dawn]and birds are calling out welcoming the dawn.
Little girl ,blessed with lotus like as well as doe like eyes  avoid the deceitful enjoyment of thoughts of Krishna all by yourself by lying on the bed .

The milk overflowing from yet to be milked buffaloes that are yearning for their calves ,has drenched the house and turned into slush the grounds of a good man whose sister you are!
We are standing out in the open with the cold dew drenching our heads whilst we are singing the praises of one who is very sweet to the heart and who  killed the lord of southern lanka overcome by anger .
Yet you remain dumb.
All the residents have woken up but for you! What is the meaning behind this deep sleep dear young girl?

maavai pilladhanai mallarai maaittiya,
devadhi devanai sendrunaam sevithaal ,

Meaning.

The horizon has whitened and buffaloes are grazing the dew soaked grass.
A group of girls who have set out to bathe [in river] have been halted on the way so that we all in unison can call out to you,
Beautiful girl,very dear to Krishna ,awake and arise .
If we praise the qualities of Krishna which also includes brave deeds like tearing open the mouth of the horse like asura and of defeating  and killing of the wrestlers sent by Kamsa,
And surrender totally to lord of all devas with prayers seeking fulfilment of wishes ,bhagwaan will melt down and grant boons as per the penances performed by us..

Meaning:

Petite girl the birds have started to chirp,and the piercing sound of the white conch that is blown from the sannidhi of Garuda is to be heard.Can you not hear this?
Seers and yogis who have seated the bhagwan in their  hearts,who long ago sucked the poisonous life out of the raakshasi bhoodana ,
who also kicked to bits the devious cart that hurtled  in tearing speed ,
and who is also reclining in meditative repose in the swell of the milky ocean,
and who is the seed of all ,have all woken up from thier langorous sleep and are chanting Hari Hari ,
Let these auspicious sounds fill you with tranquility,

Meaning.

Inhabitants of this earth!Listen to the vows we are binding ourselves in this month long penanace.
we will praise the sacred feet of Brahman who is lying in meditative repose in the milky ocean.
we will bathe early in the morning every day and will avoid partaking ghee or milk.
Nor will we adorn our eyes with kajal nor deck our tresses with flowers,
we will not do all that which is prohibited ,nor will we carry tales about each other.
we will give gifts and alms as much as possible without feeling boastful or satiated at our own munificence,
And we will experience Bhagwaan in all things that makes our living possible ,
