Thanian/verse praising Peria azwaar .
Gurumuga manatheethya brahveda naseshaan,
narapathi pari klupdham sulka madhadhu kamaha :
svasura mamaravanthyum ranganathasya saakshaath,
tvijakula thilakum VishnuChithum namami..............................By Nathamuni.
I bow to Periyazhwar who keenly contested the debate organisesd by the king Vallabha Devan[Pandian king] and won the prize that consisted of a bag of gold coins.
He had no formal education in Vedas yet he could recite and quote from the Vedas owing to the blessings of Sriman Narayana.
He is fit to receive obscience from Devas .He is the father- in- law of Sri Ranganathar.He is a tilak to the Brahmin clan.
Per anindhu Villiputhur Ani thanil ,
perum jothi thanil thondrum Perumane'
mun seer annindhu Pandiyan thun nrnju thanil ;
thiyakku ara maal para thathuvathai thiramai cheppi,
varanum mel Madurai valum varave vaanil,

Periya aazhwaar !You took birth in the famous town of Sri Villiputhur in the month of Aani in the reign of the star Swathy.
Once upon a time[in 8 th CE] you cleared the doubts of the Pandiyan king that assailed him regarding the true nature of the Supreme Brahman and you emphatically proved and established that the Supreme being is Sriman Narayana ans none other.
When you were taken around the city of Madurai on the back of the royal elephant amid great celeberations all around,Narayana along with His consort Lakshmi appeared in His Garuda vahana in the skies to have a eyeful of these joyous celeberations.
At that time you praised Sriman Narayana with the verses beginning with Pallandu....and continued to expound 473 pasurums .
Kindly help me to learn and memorise these pasurums .
1,மாணிக்கம்கட்டி வைரம் இடை கட்டி ,
ஆணி பொன்னால் செய்த வண்ண சிறு தொட்டில்
பேணி ,உனக்கு பிரமன் விடு தந்தான் ,

1.Manickam katti vayirum idai katti,
Aanni ponnaal seidha vanna siru thotil,
Penni unakku bhiraman viduthandhaan,
Mani kurallane!Thalelo!Vaiyum allandhane!Thalelo!
Bramha Deva has sent you a small cradle honed out of pure gold which is held by chains of precious stones entwined with strings of diamonds.
One who took the avatar of Vamana, the bachelor!.

2.Uddaiyaar gana manniyodu one mathullampoo,
idai viravi kotha yezhil thezhginodu,
vidaiyeru Kapaali Eesan viduthandhaan,
Udaiyai! azhel azhel!Thalelo!
Ulagam allandhane ! Thalelo!
Lord Siva who has the bull as his vehicle has sent You a chain made of gold beads which has a gold pendant in the middle which is as red as a pomogranate flower, to cover Your sacred body in the front below Your hips.
All life forms are Your slaves ! Accept this gift without crying

sandum azhagiya thamarai thalarkku,
Indiran thanum yezhiludai kikini,
thandhavanai ninraan.Thaalelo!

My Bhagwan!You have a beautiful chest .Your legs are soft and rose colored like a lotus flower.!
Indra who is standing in the middle ,that is neither too far or too near has brought You intricately crafted anklets that make pleasing sounds.
This Lullabye is for You! Lotus eyed one ! Go to sleep.
4.Sangin Valumburiyum sevadi kinkiniyum,
angai sarri valayum naanum arai thodarum,
angann visumbil Amaragal pothnadhaar,
Sengann Karu Mugile! Thalelo!
Devaki singame Thalelo!
Devas the inhabitants of the upper world have sent You conch shell that has whorls on its right side,anklets with tinkling bells as well as apparels having golden borders,and also thread to tie around Your hip.
Dark as rain bearing clouds and Red eyed Bhagwan! This lullabye is for You!
Devaki's lion ! Go to sleep.
5.எழிலார் திரு மார்புக்கு ஏற்கும் இவை என்று ,
அழகிய ஐம் படையும் ஆரமும் கொண்டு ,
வழவில் கொடையான் வயிச்சி ரவணன் ,
தெழுது உவனாய் நின்றான் :தாலேலோ !,
தூமணி வண்ணனே தாலேலோ
5.Yezhilaar thiru marbukku yerkum evai yendru,
azhagiya i'm padaiyum aaramum kondu,
vazhavil kodaiyaan vayichi ravanan,
thezhudhu uvanai ninraan,Thalelo!

Kuberan who is a blemishless philantrophist has brought You the following ornaments which he deems would suit Your sacred and charming chest.
He has brought ornaments depicting Your 5 weapons and a chain made of golden beads .He is standing in the middle with bowed head and palms folded together in supplication.
Sri Krishna !This lullabye is for You! Your colour is like a flawless turquoise blue stone! Go to sleep!
Note: Aye 'm' Padai means -The five weapons of Sriman Narayana,who is known as the protector of the worlds .They are conch,bow, sword, chakra and mace.
It was tradition in days gone by to adorn infants with a chain which strung together the miniature replicas of the Pancha Ayuddum or the Five weapons of Vishnu.
Note: Kuberan is the guardian of the Northern directions and has unlimited and incalculable wealth.
6.Vodhak kadalin olli muthin aaramum,
jadhi pavazhamum santha sar ee vallaiyum,
madhaka yendru Varunun viduthandhaan,
Jothi sudur mudiyai!Thalelo!

Varuna Deva ,has sent You a chain made of pearls which has been gathered from ocean depths.
He has also sent You ornaments made of superior quality of coral beads as well as armulets made of pearls and corals and also bangles made of shells.
He is sure that they are best suited for You.
Possesor of bright and lustrous hair!This lullabye is for You!

7.கானார் நறுந்துழாய் கைசெய்த கண்ணியும் ,
வானார் செழுஞ்சோலை கற்பகத்தின் வாசிகையும் ,
தேனார் மலர்மேல் திருமங்கை போத்தந்தாள் ,
கோனே !அழேல் அழேல் ! தாலேலோ !
குடந்தை கிடந்தானே! தாலேலோ !
7.Kanaar narunthuzhaai kai seidha kanniyum,
vanaar sezhuncholai karpagathin vasigaiyum,
thenaar malarmel thirumangai pothandhaal,
Kone'!Azhel azhel,Thalelo!Kudandhai kidandhane'!Thalelo!
MahaLakshmi who resides in the lotus flower that brims with honey has sent You a garland of fragrant Tulsi leaves that has been gathered from a forest .
She has also sent You a wreath of flowers of Karpaga trees that grow profusely in Deva Loka to adorn Your forehead.
King of all! Donot cry! Donot cry!This lullabye is for You!
One who is reclining in Kudandhai temple!Go to sleep.
8.Kachchodu porkarigai kaambu kankavalai,
ucchi manni chutti one thaal nirai porpoo,
Achudhanikku yendru avan inniyaal poth thandhaal,
nachchu mulai undai! Thalelo!
Narayana! Azhel ,thalelo!
Bhooma Devi ,Your sweet heart ,has sent You Achchudha , an waist band , a golden dagger, silk robes with borders,a golden ornament hewed with rubies to adorn the parting in Your hair over Your forehead and golden flowers .
One who drank the milk from the poison smeared nipples of Bhoodhanai!This lullabye is for You.
Narayana ! Donot cry! Go to sleep!
9. Mei thimirum nanap podiyodu manjalum ,
seiya thadangkannuku anjanamum sindooramum,
veiya kalaipagi kondu uvallayai nindraal,
Ayoo! Azhel azhel Thalelo!
Aranagathanaiyane! Thalelo!
Durga ,who has a stag for her vehicle has brought You fragrant bathing powder , turmeric powder , kolliriyum for Your eyes and sindhoor to decorate Your forehead.She is standing in the middle.

Ranganatha! You are reclining over AdiSesha in Srirangam temple!Go to sleep!
10.Vanchnaiyaal vandha peichi mulaiunda,
anjana vannanai aaichchi thalatia ,
senchol maraiavar ser pudhuvai pattan sol,
yenchamai vallarku illai idarthane!
Yashoda who belonged to Yadava clan sang this lullabye to Sri Krishna who was as black as kolliriyumand who sucked the life out of the rakshasi Bhoodanai when she tried to kill infant Sri Krishna by suckling Him with her poisend nipples.
This lullabye which was sung by Yashodha to rock her infant son to sleep was envisioned by Battar Piraan ,[Periazhwar]who was born in Sri Villiputhur that was inhabited by Brahmins who were well versed in the Vedas .
Those who recite these Pasurums will lead a life free of troubles.
